Purpose of role
The evening meal is an important time on our Inpatient Unit and the food we offer patients is often a highlight of their visit! The kitchens are supported by Supper Assistants, who help ensure the supper service runs smoothly and patients enjoy their evening mealtime.
Main tasks
• To assist chefs in maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in the kitchen
• To ensure sufficient cups, tea, coffee, etc., are available in all kitchen areas
• Stack dishwasher, put away condiments and trays
• Collect any meal trays, change water jugs, clean trays and replace tray papers
• To assist with making tea or coffee for patients if requested by nursing staff
• To report any hazards to a senior member of staff
• Change the patients’ water jugs and glasses, clean and replace trays
Training and Support
Induction
• Kitchen staff induction
• Shadow shifts with an experienced volunteer
In addition the following training and support will be given:
• Health & Safety e-learning training
• Communication skills level 1
• Opportunity to attend at least 4 volunteer meetings per year
Knowledge, skills and abilities required
• To be polite and friendly
• To be well organised and time aware
• A high regard for cleanliness and hygiene
Special conditions
• For this role we require a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check before starting and on a rolling 3 year basis
• The role is also subject to satisfactory references and a trial period
