Pan African Cinema - the Horn and its Diaspora: An exploration of Somali life on screen

For this year's Numbi Festival Film Corner, we have teamed up with Other Cinemas and  SAAFI (Somali Advice and Forum of Information) to screen three short films exploring the history and experiences of British people with Somali heritage who have made the East End their home. Using archival footage, these films delve into themes surrounding Somali culture and attempts at self-representation as well as experiences of alienation, antiblack racism and sites of protest against these impositions. In addition to these films we are delighted to be screening Laan, a short film exploring daily life in Djibouti told through the story of three female childhood friends.

These screenings will be followed by an intergenerational conversation between the panel and members of the audience around these themes and more.

Panellists:

Kinsi Abdulleh - Artist and founder of Numbi Arts

Rhoda Ibrahim - Community builder, founder and executive Director of SAAFI in London
