Over the last three years there have been major changes in the way teachers use technology in schools. Old IT suites have been taken out and Chromebooks have moved ‘centre stage’ within the classroom.
Many teachers have undergone training and are now working in the cloud using Google Apps to enhance teaching and learning. Google Apps which allow pupils to work on the same document at the same time, are leading to changes in the way pupils learn and teachers teach.
The main Google App, Google Classroom has allowed teachers to take full control of their pupils' digital work so that they can give quick and regular 'feedback' during and after a lesson. Google Classroom also organises and stores pupils' work, making it easy to return to at any point in time.
In addition to using Google Apps, key tools such as Seesaw and Flipgrid, are allowing pupils to 'make their thinking visible' through the use of video and audio. Moreover, these tools give pupils the opportunity to share their work with a wider digital audience, as well as their classmates and teacher.
Who is the event for?
This 'Google Boost' session is aimed at teachers who are new to Chromebooks and Google Apps or those in need of a refresher. It is perfect for teachers who want to find how to get the most out of them to enhance learning, but also want to make their own teaching role easier by empowering pupils 'digital skills' and making them more independent learners.
It is ideal for NQTs, or teachers who are new to Chromebooks. It will also be useful for those teachers who need a 'refresher' or are keen to improve their own digital skills.
The session will run by Clint Lees, a teacher and Google Certified Educator and two York teachers who are experienced and passionate about the use of Google technologies in the classroom.
