It's claimed we live in a post‐truth society abounding in fake news and alternative facts, and there is a crisis of trust in experts and expertise. How can we improve both the trustworthiness of the statistical evidence being communicated, and the ability of audiences to assess the quality and reliability of what they are being told?
The Mathematics and Statistics Distinguished Lecture Series presents the inaugural Bowman Lecture, a talk by Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter, FRS OBE. Professor Spiegelhalter is one of the most cited and influential researchers in his field, and is the Chair of the Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication in the Statistical Laboratory at the University of Cambridge. The talk will be followed by a drinks reception with Professor Spiegelhalter signing copies of his latest best seller "The Art of Statistics:Learning from Data”.
