The thin eyelid skin is prone to aging faster, accelerated by heredity factors, skin type, sun damage, smoking and diet. Blepharoplasty may become necessary when these factors cause the muscles and tissue that support the eyelids to weaken allowing the eyelid fat to herniate forwards.
