Technical Communicator
Salary: Up to £31k depending on experience
Location: Birmingham

I am currently recruiting fora Technical Communicator to join its team based in Birmingham.

As part of a team you will be directly reporting to the Marketing Director to deliver high-quality training material.

This role will require you to produce user manuals, best practice guides, cheat sheets, practical exercises, videos, and online tutorials.

Knowledge of best practices and trends in online education and training is desirable.

The role would suit a self-motivated Technical Communicator looking to develop their career and broaden their scope.

Responsibilities:

* Draft, revise and update in-house online collections of technical and training documentation.
* Use MadCap Flare to produce single-source, multi-format outputs.
* Use Camtasia to produce 'Blended Video' material.
* Identify and interrogate subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather requirements, and gain an understanding of thedocumentation subject.
* Craft a suitable narrative that allows users to navigate content easily irrespective of where they start.
* Use concise, unambiguous language to ensure subject matter is covered in a way that is simple to understand, and that can be translated easily to other languages.
* Think logically, identify knowledge gaps and understand dependencies between units of content.
* Appreciate and embrace the concept of re-usability. Understand that while content duplication may sometimes be necessary, it must be done in a creative and efficient manner.
* Conduct peer reviews of colleagues' draft documentation, both as a means of ensuring document quality and of maintaining a broad familiarity with the subject matter.
* Maintain task list, including task duration and other specifics, for the benefit of departmental process management and workflow.
* As required, attend meetings and demonstrations about subject matter to ensure knowledge is kept current.
* Work with the Development Team to ensure that all potential issues are reported and logged in document annotations, as a reference for other members of the user education team.

The applicant must be able to communicate with confidence:

* Communicate information in terms that are as simple as possible for the subject matter.
* Prevent misunderstanding by using clear, unambiguous language.
* Understand the need for different communication methods depending on the needs of the audience.Personal Drive:
The applicant will benefit from a positive and determined personality:

* Use initiative to manage own workload with minimal supervision.
* Adapt to changes in circumstance that may require additional work or modifications to existing requirements.

Customer Focus:
Although the applicant will not typically work in direct contact with customers, they should:

* Understand the key measures by which their performance will be measured by the customer.
* React to customer and stakeholder feedback, using it to not only to improve their current project but any relevant future projects as well.
