My client a leading multinational company based in the south west of Limerick County, designs and manufactures innovative plastic packaging for a range of customers around the world. Due to growth they are now looking for an Apprentice Toolmaker to join their successful team.

This is an excellent companyto work for even though they are a large multinational they have a lovely SME feel.

The Apprentice will develop to be a fullycompetent Toolmaker, having their time divided between practical work experience in the company and theoretical learning in thecourse centre.

Over the course of their apprenticeship, the apprentice will:

* Learn to be responsible for making precision tools (such as jigs, moulds and dies), special guides and holding devices, which are then used in the manufacturing processto make products.

* Work with a variety of materials including metals, alloys, plastics and ceramics, which are referred toas stocks or castings.

* Monitor these tools to identify, and implement, any necessary modification or repairs. They will also learn how to use computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines.





Typical day to day responsibilities may include:

* Assembling, fitting and repairing tools.

* Following engineering drawings to measure and mark out the design for thetool.

* Using hand tools such as files, hacksaws and grinders.

* Using machinery such as lathes, presses, milling machines and grinders to cut and shape the tools.

* Using 2D and 3D computer aided design and manufacturing software (CAD/CAM).* Using precision measurement instruments such as micrometres, gauges and vernier callipers to check the tool's dimensions.* Monitoring the tools used on the manufacturing line to ensure efficient run rates and identify necessary repairs or possible improvements.

* Attending machine breakdowns to identify the root cause and solve the problem.

* Assisting with toolmaintenance.

* Compiling reports.



Requirements:

* Age 16 or above.

* Minimum of Junior Certificate or equivalent - Grade D in at least 5 subjects.

* Good hand-to-eye co-ordination.

* Attention to detail.

* Accuracy.

* Good verbal and written communication skills.

* The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
