Description:
My client are a prestigious organisation location in Newport, South Wales. They are seeking a Data Scientist for a 6 monthcontract to be part of a multi-disciplinary team who are aiming to modernise the way in which economic statistics are developed;your role will be to provide data science and data engineering support to projects.
This is suitable for an individual with ahighly numerical academic background and postgraduate qualification, with 1-2 years experience.
The role is paying £24.30 perhour (37 hours per week - flextime).
Technical skills
Essential
* Strong skills and experience in using a programminglanguage to manipulate and analyse data (preferably Python, or a general understanding of object-oriented programming with another language).
* Interest or experience in applying technical concepts to data problems (i.e. optimisation methods, machine learning, data models / structures and algorithms).
* Knowledge of statistical methods.
* Data wrangling (data manipulation skills).
* Interest or experience in designing data processing systems.
Desirable
* Experience of working with distributed systems (Spark, Hive) to process or analyse data.
* Experience of using git, or other software version control tools.
* Experience in using Test Driven Development and / or Behavioural Driven Development (with Jenkins or similar).
* Experience of working in an agile development environment.
* Interest in the economy and how statistics can be used to inform policy or the public debate.
