Microsoft Infrastructure Engineer
Overview of the role
Our client is undergoing an IT transformation, building a new hybrid IT infrastructure making this an exciting time to join the company and to make your mark within this growing business.
The Microsoft Infrastructure Engineer will provide Microsoft based design, engineering and support services relating to our messaging infrastructure, Office 365 and Microsoft operating systems.
You will advise on technical decisions relating to infrastructure projects, technical solutions, tasks and improvements and will be responsible for creating technical design documentation and maintaining infrastructure technology related roadmaps. As a Microsoft Infrastructure Engineer you will take lead roles on Infrastructure projects including designs, implementations and upgrades to the company’s global infrastructure, working closely with 3rd party solution providers and operational teams where required.
Your main duties and responsibilities:
- Design, engineering and operations of Microsoft server related components including but not limited to Exchange Messaging, Office 365, Microsoft OS, Active Directory, Mimecast
- Administration and scripting of environment using PowerShell
- Ensuring Messaging systems are running optimally, secure and backed up
- Helping to shape the Microsoft infrastructure, globally, in line with the growth ambitions of the firm
- Creating and maintaining Messaging standards and delivery of infrastructure solutions in line with PCI-DSS compliance requirements, including documentation
- Providing in depth 3rd line troubleshooting of Microsoft infrastructure related issues
- Learning and expanding your infrastructure expertise and skillset
- Project assignments where you will work closely with other project teams developing new IT solutions based on business requirements, designing and evaluating technical solutions and producing technical support documentation
REQUIREMENTS
Core:
- Graduate-level qualified in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline or equivalent experience
- Technical certifications preferred: Microsoft, Exchange
- Experience composing high-level and low-level infrastructure design documentation and technical operations documentation
- A solid IT infrastructure background with prior (and current) experience with Microsoft technologies including Exchange, Office 365 and ideally Mimecast
- Expert in PowerShell administration
- A good understanding of the Microsoft datacentre and operations technology stack
- Experience of highly available and fault tolerant systems
- Good communications skills, comfortable with communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
Preferable:
- Azure cloud services
- AWS cloud services
- Networking experience
- Experience managing Linux based systems
