Shift Supervisor



The Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the Command and Control Centre Shifts. The shift supervisor will be responsible for ensuring a high level of customer service and quality assurance of the delivery of the MacRail product through the MC3. The Shift Supervisor will also identify any performance issues and escalate these to the MC3 Manager.

Additionally the Shift Supervisor with take responsibility and undertake the supervision of client sites where control room services have been ordered. The Shift Supervisor must ensure regular contact is made with the sites and sufficient information is obtained to generate regular email updates, as required by both Network Rail and the clients themselves.

The Shift Supervisor must also deal with issues raised from those sites acting as a single point of contact and go to point for all parties. The Shift Supervisor must identify when a site is not working as planned and take an active role in liaison with client managers to rectify any problems and identify solutions, liaising with third parties as required.



As a Shift Supervisor, your duties & responsibilities will include:



1. Liaise with Managers, IT and clients to ensure readiness for theweekends work.

2. Ensure the smooth running of the Command and Control Centre Shifts.

3. Identify and performance issuesand escalate these in the appropriate manner.

4. Ensure that all active sites are updated regularly either by the onsite MacRail SAC or MacRail Command & Control Centre.

5. Monitor these updates and identify if a site is falling behind on planor a possession hand back time is under threat, taking appropriate and immediate action in collaboration with the client to rectify this.

6. Generate and send email reports as required by Network Rail and the individual clients. The Shift Supervisor must ensure they have sufficient, accurate information to send these reports, in a timely manner.

7. Prepare planned, regularor ad hoc reports as required by client, 3rd party (if authorised by client) or company management team.

8. Ensure all work progress, accidents/incidents and any other relevant information are entered onto the MacRail System using the site diary, site schedule and system reports to build up as detailed a database as possible.

9. Maintain accurate records on the MacRail Systemof information received from site or third parties and actions taken.

10. Contact Client on Call immediately in the event ofany accidents, incidents & potential overruns.

11. Engage with clients and third parties to identify and rectify any issues on site in a timely and professional manner.

12. Follow up all issues and failures.

13. Prepare handover reports to next Shift Supervisor and feedback/wash-up reports to MC³ Manager and company management team.

14. Prepare for and feedback tothe weekly wash-up meeting with any appropriate issues.

15. Ensure close team working relationships with MacRail SACs and Command & Control Centre staff.

16. Attend 3 monthly Shift Supervisor meetings.

17. Any other duties as reasonably required, including assisting the Command & Control Centre team.



Other Information

The position of Shift Supervisor is not considered to be safety critical. Therefore Sentinel qualifications will not be required.

The Shift Supervisor must beaware of all procedures and policies contained within the MacRail Company Handbook.



Necessary Skills and Experience* Ability to communicate clearly (must speak English fluently)

* Assertiveness - management skills

* Sound organisationalskills

* Good admin skills

* Ability to work well under time pressures

* Working knowledge of computer operation and of the internet

* Desirable - Full UK driving licence



The following skills will be developed in the position and willgreatly assist the Shift Supervisor in their job:



* Knowledge of railway track renewals (P Way) terminology

* Knowledge of the basic stages of track renewals operations

* Comprehensive understanding of the phonetic alphabet

Specific qualifications are not required for the position of Shift Supervisor, but person's already in possession of Sentinel or LUCAS training or having previous railway experience should state this on their application.

Personal Protective Equipment

PPE will not be issued to Shift Supervisors.

Deputy Arrangements

The deputy arrangement for this role will be the MC3 Manager
