You will be introduced to theoretical knowledge and essential practical skills needed for a career as a theatre director.
Through practical workshops, working with other short course students and group analysis you will explore:
- how the actor’s process works
- ways to realise text in performance
- critical analysis of the work of other directors
- developing, planning and delivering your own directing exercise
- working with actors from other short courses on an extended project based on a play (recent plays include Pinter's Betrayal, Rachel Cusk's Medea).
- everyone regardless of prior experience or training
- people who are new to directing
- actors who are interested in moving into directing
- other theatre practitioners who are interested in learning more about the role of the director
Times: Mondays & Wednesdays, 7.00pm - 9.30pm for 8 weeks. The course consists of 16 sessions in total.
Age: Minimum age is 18 on the first day of the course. No upper age limit.
Language requirements: Applicants must be confident speaking and reading English to a conversational level (IELTS score of 7.0 or equivalent). Please note, you will be expected to read texts/scripts that may have advanced vocabulary in them on this course.
Maximum class size: 16
Attendance: Due to the structure of the courses, and the colloborative nature of acting, full attendance is required.
