HR is a hybrid reality project that brings together four performers Martina Morger, Wassili Widmer, Alexandra Santos Ocasio, Zhuojun Sun, and computer animator John Butler. The project aims to explore the psychological aspects of labour performativity as ‘system efficiency’ under the current neoliberal political system. The project engages this theme in a multi-dimensional show that merges expressive elements from computer animation and performance art via the medium of a Motion Capture suit. Taking place in both the virtual and in the physical worlds, the performance creates a symbolic scenario that conveys the violent dynamic to which the workforce is subjected.
In its engagement with this topical theme, the project intends to foster a reflection on the ephemerality of performance as an impermanent, non-reproducible artwork. During the event, the audience will be given the chance to experience the performance through three different mediums: attending the performance physically; via a monitor in the ISO meeting room; and by means of live-streaming via the Facebook page of the event. Such an array of participation will allow the curator and the artists to build up a conversation about experiencing, documenting and archiving performances—a conversation that will take place at the Tontine Building for the GSA Degree Show 2019 (24th-29th of August).

HR is a performance show consisting of four 45 minutes of sections.
The event will run from 6 pm to 9 pm and will take place at ISO.
Audience members are invited to book a specific time slot from the options below:

The whole experience will last around one hour (one slot will allow the audience to take part in two of the four sections). During the event, visitors will experience physical participation in the performance and a mediated participation through a monitor in the meeting room of ISO. Visitors are invited to follow the remaining parts through live streaming which will be available throughout the event.

The event will be filmed and the recording will be used for research purposes. A consent form will be distributed at the beginning of each time slot. If you do not wish to be recorded, please speak with a member of the staff once there.
