Do you want to explore your creative passion for dance? Are you interested in learning different approaches to dance training and challenging yourself with interesting and inspiring classes?

Take part in innovative classes from some of London's creative contemporary ballet and interdisciplinary teachers. HackBallet's team of creative dance practitioners will deliver these weekly master classes in contemporary ballet and allied techniques. These classes will help you explore your physicality and stimulate your creative muscles.

These classes are ideal for adult dancers or adult beginners who want to try new approaches to learning contemporary ballet. Some prior experience of ballet, dance or a related discipline is helpful but not required! You will explore new ways of moving within a contemporary ballet framework with the careful guidance of our experienced dance artists. You will work on techniques that improve your body awareness and stretch you, mentally and physically.

"When we understand how the body moves, we are then able to find our fullest potential in strength, flexibility, and endurance with more ease. " ~ Kindall Payne

Decompress from your work week and focus on yourself and your creative approach to your body. Be inspired by these insightful professional artists to explore your physical and creative potential in an environment that fosters diversity and inclusivity.

Tom McCann Nov 8th and 15th

A fun contemporary ballet class composed of miniature choreographies to inspire your performance presence, Tom's class has a down to earth and enjoyable atmosphere.

Jenn Vogtle Nov 22nd

Jenn will lead you through a contemporary circus and acrobatics influenced class that will challenge you physically and inspire you creatively.

Hulya Levent Nov 29th

A "late" starter to formal dance training, Hulya took advantage of the intensive Russian classical ballet education offered by Oleg Manukovskiy and Natalia Valishvili in North Cyprus, and the London Russian Ballet School. She graduated from full time training at Kate Simmons Dance where she also qualified as a teacher specialising in the ISTD Cecchetti Classical ballet syllabus. Her professional work has covered fashion, opera, ballet, film and contemporary dance, and she collaborated with Sowsoa Arts to found Dancing Authentically to offer professional dancers the opportunity to explore personal development and mindfulness, creating an environment of freedom, authenticity and personal expression through contemporary dance.

FAQ
What level are the classes?

These classes give adult dancers and adult beginners the chance to work with professionals. The classes are great for adult dancers and dance students with some experience in ballet, yoga, circus, physical theatre, contemporary dance or another physical discipline... but don't worry if you haven't had a lot of prior training! Our team of teachers are experienced in working with people with a range of body types and training backgrounds and will carefully observe your training to encourage you to get the most out of these master classes.

What do I need to bring to the sessions?

Wear comfortable workout clothes and bring extra layers to keep warm at the beginning of class or during floorwork. Bring a water bottle and a small towel.

If you have them already, you can wear flat canvas ballet shoes to these classes. You can also train in clean cotton socks or bare feet if you are more comfortable that way.

If you bring your camera phone or video camera for selfies at the end of class, remember not to post any images publicly without getting permission from any other people in the background!

How do I find the studio?

The entrance to the Margaret Shepherd Studio Theatre is inside SPACe Hoxton, the gym on the campus of New City College (formerly Hackney community college).

From Kingsland Road turn into Redvers Street and go through the security gate. Turn left and you will see the access ramp and bicycle racks in front of the gym entrance. You'll be greeted at the security desk by the friendly gym staff. Turn left and go through the double doors right to the end of the corridor. The Margaret Shepherd studio theatre is the last door on the left before the ladies loos!
