In 1909 the Secret Service Bureau was created to root out and neutralise foreign espionage. This was the origin of the Security Service (also known as MI5) and the Secret Intelligence Service (aka MI6).
But the story is more complex than this suggests. On this tour we explore developments such as the Special Operations Executive and the rôle of Special Branch.
We consider the contributions of Winston Churchill, Agent Zig Zag, and the Ace of Spies. And then there are the Cambridge Five.
Meet by the revolving sign outside New Scotland Yard on the Victoria Embankment (the nearest station is Westminster Underground Station). The tour will finish approximately two hours later near Pimlico Underground Station.
