This workshop is all about exploring and experimenting with colour, pattern and texture. Embroidery artist Jessica Grady will begin the workshop by showing you various ways to add colour and pattern to paper through mixed media approaches using paint, collage and different resists such as bleach, tape and masking fluid. You will build up a selection of patterns and designs which will inspire your embroidery later in the workshop. After a lunch break you will use your textured sketchbook papers to act as an inspiration (or even materials!) towards a 3D embroidered and embellished piece of textile art.

As well as traditional fabrics and threads, Jessica will demonstrate how you can use unusual materials such as plumbing pipe, washers and dyed sponges to create your own colourful embellishments, sequins and beads. All materials for this workshop are included in the ticket price as well as a selection of refreshments and  a light lunch. If you have any dietry requirements please contact Jessica before the workshop to let her know. All you need to bring along is an apron for the messy, morning part of the workshop!

There is also the option to make this a 2 part course, with the second session involving having one of your sketchbook paper images printed onto fabric for you to embellish and stitch into. You will choose a sketchbook piece of work from the 1st session to give to Jessica to scan and digitally print onto fabric. This printed fabric featuring your own design will provide the base to your textile art piece for the 2nd session. If you are interested in this option please get in touch with Jessica via email: jgradyembroidery@gmail.com

The workshop is held in the Art room at Clements Hall, a fantastic space with lots of lovely natural light, and is accessible for anyone with mobility issues. The venue has ample free parking for workshop attendees and is located in central York - 10 mins from York station.
