Join us on Block Four of this adventure!! - open to new members at any experience level
The Dates: Sundays 17th November, 24th November, 1st December, 8th December, 15th December.
The Idea: Led by professional actor, teacher and director, Gareth Kennerley, you'll be signing up to a 5 week block of creative theatre-based training and collaboration. Gareth will lead the sessions working to form a language as a company of non-professional actors through theatre-based exercises, exploring text, voice, and movement through the use of various performance methodologies.
The last session of each block will be a theatre trip or visit to some other visual arts event. This trip will be announced as soon as the block is full or two weeks before the start of the block - whichever is sooner. The work we cover in the block will bear this visit in mind, so that we are more able to engage with it on a critical and creative level.
There may be work carried on from week to week or we might start something fresh each week, and within the group, different members may have different things to be working on. The idea is that the theatre lab is on-going, so you'll be able to book to join the next block each time, where we might welcome new members looking at new ideas and, in some cases carrying on work from a previous block. In this way the training is potentially 5 weeks in every 6 throughout the year, but if you can't make a particular block you can rejoin at any date in the future.
Where Gareth Is unavailable to teach on any given Sunday, there will be a one off 3hr skills class by a visiting teacher. Every Sunday- post session - we'll also have a social in a nearby pub or cafe - maybe including a roast/quiz. This will not be included in the price, but will be pre-arranged each week dependent on demand. Friends and family would be welcome to join.
If you sign up here on eventbrite you are committing to attend all 5 of the sessions (including the trip) in the block. If you know ahead of time that you can only make four of the sessions but would still like to join us then you can contact Gareth directly to discuss this.
We all know that life sometimes gets in the way of plans despite best intentions, but should you miss more than 1 session you may be asked not to attend the remaining sessions in the block and/or not be permitted to take part in any future blocks. Behaviour in the sessions and commitment to the work will also be monitored and might equally result in not being able to attend future blocks. In both cases refunds will not be available. This is so we can guarantee the right attitude in the sessions and guarantee the forward momentum of the blocks.
Scaffold State also mounts non-professional and professional productions. Should you wish to be considered for these then you must be attending the Sunday blocks on a fairly regular basis. On signing up you will be added to a mailing list and receive more specific info relating to the block.
