The Terribly Disappointing Mr Pummel
A secluded beach on a Greek island. A turtle called Thelma.
And a bittersweet romance that spans twenty years.
Twenty years ago, celebrated author and recluse, Samuel Pummel unexpectedly met the love of his life. Now they must both face the unthinkable
Combining stage performance with filmed footage, the play is a two-handed romantic comedy with pathos. It concerns a couple in their fifties who meet in 1979, and it follows their 20 year relationship on a series of holidays on a Greek island.
Though the play has a light touch, it is thought-provoking and should raise questions about self-worth; growing old; adapting to change; how we evaluate our perceived successes and failures and the joys and sorrows of love in later life.
