Description:
My client, a Data Centre services specialist are currently recruiting for a Senior Cabling Engineer (Optic Fibre) on a permanent basis.
You will serve as a technical knowledge expert and role model to other, especially new, team members; ensures knowledge and skill sharing across the team to constantly elevate overall quality of service and promote professional excellence.
Shift details -
4 days on/4 days off, 12 hours' night/day shift
What are we looking for?
* Cabling engineers with experience with Optic Fibre cabling
* be ableto install, terminate and test category 5 and category 6, UTP, STP coaxial, multicore voice and Belden x.21..
* Engineers must have a background installation, preparation, splicing and testing of singlemode and multimode optic fibre
Duties & Responsibilities -
* Responsible for managing on a day to day basis (based on shifts) the Cabling Shift Engineers.
* Use own technical and industry knowledge, as well as excellent knowledge of client and industry standards to provide guidance and in-house training to new cabling engineers
* Be the trusted go-to expert within the team, actively sharing knowledge and encouraging others to openly discuss technical problems when in doubt
* Ensure that team members use the correct PPE for the task at hand and follow all necessary safety measures at all times
* Perform and document weekly H&S spot-checks
* Survey all installations prior to commencement
* Ensure that all Add/Moves/Changes (A/M/C) are approved, correctly recorded, labelled and reported to the line manager and Sales Support team
* Test and label each installation complying with client and industry standards
* Ensure that team members are following correct testing methods and procedures at any time, advise where necessary to ensure consistency across the team
* Take responsibility for day to day cable management within the risers and cable routes including the supervision and advisory to the customers and cabling contractors on correct and safe usage of client infrastructure
*Support the ISO 9001 Quality requirements in the job role
* Support the ISO 27001 Information Security requirements in the sphere of work
* Perform cable moves and changes to existing systems as required
* Test and label each installation, recordingthe test results for presentation to customers on completion as necessary and in line with Company standards
* Identify and carefully recover redundant or abandoned cables in order to maximize the capacity in cable routes and risers
* Take responsibility for day to day cable management within the risers and cable routes including the supervision of customers' cabling contractors
* Demonstrate knowledge and awareness of Health & Safety requirements and regulations relevant to the communications industry, whilst carrying out day to day tasks
* Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be assigned from time to timeEngineers will be required to -
* Have significant experience in fusion splicing
* Have good experience in copper termination
* Have good experience in cable management
* Prior experience in cabling within the telecoms industry
* Prior experience of testing and fault-finding on all cable types
* Be responsible for testing and labelling all installations
* Provide all relevant records and present findings to the customers according to company standards.
* Good knowledge of industry standards
* Previous leadership and management experience
* Educated at least to GCSE level
* Be a team player, always willing tosupport colleagues and go the extra mile to meet customers' expectations
Desirable -
* Datacoms cabling part 1 (City & Guilds 3466-04) or BTec equivalent
* Fibre Optic installation and testing (City & Guilds 3466-02 & 03) or BTEC equivalent
