in 1955, that is, in fact, 100 years after the first barbiturate, the first drug of the benzodiazepine structure, chlordiazepoxide, was synthesized. These drugs had fewer side effects compared to barbiturates, although they had comparable positive effects. The same was true for sleep: benzodiazepines contributed to the acceleration of the time to fall asleep, the lengthening of the time of sleep and the decrease in the number of awakenings.
