Job Overview:
The primary responsibility of this role is to facilitate high-quality education and professional development aligned with the highest standards of nursing practice within the Operating Theatre Department. The Clinical Nurse Facilitator (CNF) will collaborate with the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer to establish a competency assessment framework and a strategy for continuous professional development for peri-operative nurses.
As a crucialmember of the nurse education team, the CNF in the Operating Department is tasked with creating a supportive clinical learningenvironment for both post-registration and undergraduate nurses. Utilizing a diverse range of teaching strategies and methods, the CNF will actively participate in the Quality and Safety program, ensuring compliance with best practices and JCI standards relevant to peri-operative care.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1 Conduct education and continuous professional developmentfor Registered Nurses within the operating department.
2 Provide education and training for peri-operative nurses in alignment with the competency assessment framework.
3 Review and enhance education and training programs to reflect national and international standards for peri-operative care.
4 Promote a professional nursing practice environment consistent with the mission,vision, and values of hospital in Ireland.
5 Ensure clinical placements for student nurses meet learning outcomes set by Third Level College and NMBI standards.
6 Support change and contribute to nursing and corporate developments within the theatre department.
7 Support the strategic development of peri-operative nursing alongside the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer and Theatre Managers.
8 Provide leadership for staff team building, planned care, and educational strategies for expert peri-operative nursing care.
9 Collaborate with third-level institutes on student affairs, placements, and related matters.
10 Address practice issues highlighted by collaborating with Theatre Managers and taking appropriate remedial actions.
11 Develop and implement systems for quality improvement and monitor perioperative service quality.
12 Support surgical teams in formulating evidence-based policies, protocols, guidelines, and procedures.
13 Maintain an online database of approved Nursing policies, protocols, guidelines, and procedures in collaboration with the Quality department.
Management and Organization:
* Collaboratewith the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer and Theatre Managers on the strategic development of peri-operative nursing.
* Provide professional and clinical leadership, vision, and facilitate staff team building.
* Attend meetings with third-level institutes and collaborate on quality issues.
Communication and Interprofessional Working:
* Foster good working relationships within the theatre department and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
* Demonstrate effective writing and presentation skills, utilizing platforms like PowerPoint and teams.
* Innovatively use various educational online platforms for inclusive education and training for all staff.
Education and Training:
* Assist in developing and implementing educational frameworksfor clinical pathway programs.
* Participate in clinical learning environment audits for undergraduate programs.
* Assist in designing and delivering NMBI accredited foundation and skills programs based on patient needs.
* Assist in designing and delivering education programs for Healthcare assistants in collaboration with Directors of Nursing and Clinical Nurse Managers.Professional/Personal Development:
* Stay updated with nursing literature, research, and developments in nursing practice,management, and education.
* Participate in activities enhancing professional development and support staff in applying codesand policies of practice.
Audit/Research:
* Assist in formulating policies, protocols, guidelines, and procedures for thehighest standards of peri-operative patient-focused nursing care.
* Provide accurate reports of audits to the Director of Nursing for ongoing quality improvement.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential Criteria:
Knowledge/Experience:
*Registered nurse with at least 5 years of post-registration nursing experience, including 2 years in peri-operative settings.* Possess a relevant postgraduate award at level 8/9 or higher.
* Hold a master's degree in education or be in pursuit of thesame.
* Demonstrate knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of duties.
