Medical Device Electronic Engineer - £45k-£55k per annum - Derbyshire

Reporting to the Head of Engineering you will take overall responsibility of the electronic devices including specification, design, development and testing of the embedded software that runs on the company's visualisation platform that is currently under development.

Our client are a start-up and are the sole owner of novel platform technologies designed to reduce costs, improve safety and outcomes and minimiserisk in the exceedingly large but complex minimally invasive surgery markets. The Company is developing its first platform technology, a new visualisation platform for laparoscopic surgery. The vision of the Company is to be the market leader in the research, engineering, design, development, and marketing of advanced visualisation devices, which improve the standardisation, safety, and surgical outcomes of minimally invasive surgical procedures.

Main Duties;
The electronic engineer will be responsible for the specification, design, development, testing and design management of all of the electronics within the company's laparoscopic visualisation platform. This ranges from miniaturised circuits embedded within single-use items, to more complex controlboards.

* Working within a small team to develop system specifications and designs.
* Delivering high-quality schematicsand PCB layouts.
* Delivering fast turn around proof-of-concept circuits, when appropriate.
* Delivering high-quality designdocumentation according to medical regulations.
* Contributing to role-specific R&D planning.
* Developing and performing testing, and other quality assurance tasks.
* Working with external suppliers for both prototypes and volume quantities.* Debugging and fixing issues found from field testing and deployments.
* Working with management on managing and developing intellectual property.
* Working with external R&D vendors assigned to the development programme.

Candidate Specification;

* Significant experience of analog and digital circuit design and layout within Altium.
* Experience in implementing high-speed / high-bandwidth digital interfaces; ideally MIPI and PCIe.
* Minimum 2 years' experience developing products that were validated for use within a regulated industry (e.g. medical).
* Experience working under ISO 60601 and ISO 13485, and preparing associated documentation (risk management ISO14971, design and development procedures, change control, etc.)
* Detail-oriented, and willing to relentlessly optimise and miniaturise PCB layouts, in cooperation with mechanical design engineers.
* Familiar with designs that incorporate FPGAs.
* Familiar with non-standard PCB construction and assembly techniques.
* Familiar with EMI testing and reduction techniques.
* Excellent presentation and communication skills, particularly when communicating technical information to a non-technical audience.
* Ability to self-motivate when working independently; prioritise tasks,and work effectively to manage and meet deadlines.
* Experience writing firmware for microcontrollers, and perhaps PC-based test applications.
* Willingness to provide constructive input into R&D strategy & planning meetings.
* Hold a firstor upper second class degree in a relevant subject such as electronic engineering.
* Excellent report writing skills, and experience of MS Office.
* A basic knowledge of clinical and/or biomedical engineering.

Package;* Basic Salary of between £45k-£55k per annum
