Be part of London's only choir that sings exclusively in the Irish language!
THE GAELIC VOICES CHOIR
We started this choir earlier this year and had our first performance in May at the Gaelic Voices Festival. Now we are expanding our choir and our repertoire to culminate in a performance in December.
We sing in Irish Gaelic but you don't need to know the language or read music notation to take part and there are no auditions. Our choir includes people who are completely new to the language through to fluent speakers and many who do not have Irish heritage but want to sing! Phonetic spellings and translations of all the songs are provided as are recordings of the parts to help you practise between rehearsals.
Our rehearsals are split between the London Irish Centre in Camden and the Lewisham Irish Centre on Sunday afternoons as follows each month:
1st and 2nd weeks - Thursdays 8pm-9.30pm - Camden
3rd week - Sunday 5pm-7pm - Lewisham
with no rehearsals for the rest of the month, just time to practise!
REPERTOIRE
Our repertoire has kicked off with some well known traditional songs in Irish, namely
Báidín Fheilimí,
Níl na Lá, and
Oró Sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile,

and we will expand our repertoire with contemporary songs, new translations and Christmas songs.
COST
To make the choir accessible, we have three cost tiers. If you can afford the higher tier, your generosity will help to subsidise places for those who aren't in a position to pay a higher fee. For those who still can't afford the lower fee, please get in touch as we would be happy to negotiate a further reduction in exchange for any help you might be able to offer the choir as we are run by volunteers and we can always do with extra skills.
