Each week, we will deconstruct popular songs and work on exercises in class. You will be given different writing briefs (eg. place, politics, character) to stimulate new material, which will be critiqued in the next session. There will be opportunities to collaborate with other writers. There will be expert guidance and constructive feedback. The course is open to the many different styles and genres of popular song. Above all, it is a workshop for the craft of songwriting, not "the star-maker machinery" (Joni Mitchell), so come prepared to pitch in, experiment and make better songs.
This is a ten-week short course with weekly Wednesday sessions from 6:30-8pm.
The course dates are:
Weds 24th April - 26th June
