GistLondon was set up in 2016 by restaurant and education entrepreneur, Barak Peled, to create innovative educational experiences for professionals within the restaurant and hospitality sector.
The hospitality industry is notoriously experience-driven, with actual education and theoretical knowledge given very low priority in recruitment, promotion and career move choices, leading to employee retention and engagement levels of the lowest of all sectors in the UK. The constant need to hire, train, performance manage and ultimately replace staff is causing the industry millions of pounds in losses each year, which is part of the reason why so many businesses in the sector fail.
Barak’s vision is to provide industry-specific education and personal development opportunities, delivered independently of the workplace and to establish an independent benchmark of expertise for management positions
