In this workshop embroidery artist Jessica Grady will go through a selection of her contemporary embroidery and embellishment techniques, particularly looking at how to build pattern and incorporate colour into textile art. You will create a series of mini samples demonstrating the different techniques to create a textile sketchbook of fabric samples to take away with you.
As well as traditional textile materials Jessica will show you how to incorporate and use a variety of recyled and unusual items to add texture and interest to your swatches. This is a great workshop for those who are just starting out looking at textile art, and is also a great class to help develop and refine your techniques and processes. Techniques in the class include; mixed media sequin making, building 3D structures, layering fabrics, contemporary ways to use traditional stitches and freeform appliqué ideas.
All materials for this class are included, but you are welcome to bring along any bits and pieces you would like to incorporate into your samples such as found materials, broken jewellery or favourite scraps of fabric. Refreshments and a light lunch are also included. If you have any dietry requirements please contact Jessica before the workshop via email: jgradyembroidery@gmail.com
